Ingredients
Gooseberry-250gms
Grated jaggery-2cups
Spices
Cinnamon sticks-3 small sticks
Cardamom-5 or 6 pods
Cloves-7 or 8
Peppercorn-1tsp (I used powder)
Nutmeg-1 tsp
Rock sugar(kalkandu)-1tbsp
Saffron(optional,I did not add)
Ghee-1/4cup
Method
Pressure cooked washed gooseberry with 11/2 cups of water for 2 whistles.Meanwhile grind and powder the spices. Once the pressure us released open the lid and take out the cooked gooseberries and remove seeds.Now grind this to paste. Heat ghee in pan and add the gooseberry paste and stir and cook till moisture evaporates.Now add the grated jaggery and keep stirring.It will melt and then start thickening.Add the ground spices and stir.Switch off flame when it becomes a thick mass. Once cooled store it in an airtight container at room temperature. This can be given to kids from age 1.5years and above.1 tsp daily before breakfast followed by milk or food.Adults can take 2 tsps daily.
